The main duty of an Assistance Sub-Inspector (ASI) is to assists the Sub-Inspector and may also take the responsibility of the PS (Police Station) in the absence of the Sun-Inspector. In India the Police Head Constables and equivalent Sergeants work under the command of an Assistant Sub-Inspector. In most cases an Assistance Sub-Inspector is directly recruited into the police and have better educational qualification than lower-ranking police officers. Other units such as the Central Armed Reserve Police Force, State Armed Reserve Police and Armed Battalions also use the same system of ranking but they don't have the investigation powers.
